Artist’s Statement

Carol Gerhardt makes paintings of invisible transactions. She paints ordinary objects, imaginary forms and hardware store fasteners. Each work is an at-a-glance experience that spills unspoken cultural assumptions.

Biography

Carol Gerhardt has worked as project artist for Creative Capital, NYC and The Andy Warhol Foundation. She has written curriculum for Yale University and Houston ISD. In Texas, her work has been exhibited at Rice University, Diverse Works and Lawndale Art Center. Longview Museum of Fine Art presented her first museum solo, “Cracking Plastic Code.” She has mentored Houston teens, connecting them with Museum of Fine Art, NASA, Lawndale Art Center and The Children's Museum.

Carol Gerhardt’s installation, “Safety-Net,” was acquired by The Lester Marks Collection. Art News magazine recognizes Marks as one of the top two hundred collectors in the world.
